While IU has the '3 Stage Transformation, U-KISS has the '3 Stage Upgrade'. Their 2nd full-length album, 'Neverland' showcases their vocals and dance and highlights their musician aspects. These seven men are becoming more powerful as they step up to face their new challenges.


U-KISS, How they hit the jackpot in Japan
U-KISS signed on with one of Japan's largest entertainment companies, AVEX, for their debut. They are also the management team for the 'Hallyu fathers', TVXQ. With outstanding appearances combined with various skills of the members, it clears a pathway of opportunities and anticipation. As expected the results were great. Their Korean mini-album "Bran New Kiss" was released on August 25th and debuted on the Oricon daily charts at No.5. They then climbed to No.3 and their Japanese debut was regarded by media outlets as 'outstanding'.
However it wasn't easy. They had to adapt to the cultural differences, learn a new language as well as endure the long period of time of being unable to see their family. After their activities with '0330' in Korea, they received no break and traveled to Japan to practice their choreography, singing and study Japanese.
"Except for sleep, we spent all the hours of the day studying Japanese and practising." They spoke of how they slept for less than 5 hours each day and it was truly brutal to the breaking point. But in the end they said, "We still have a long way to go", maintaining a modest form.

Kibum, the ex-member of U-KISS came to Japan for his older brother, Hyung Jun's, concert and I had the chance to meet him and get an interview for this blog. 

Ah, he's a lot more good looking in person than he is in pictures!

Last year, I had chances to take interviews in U-KISS' press conferences or fan events but because there were a lot of members, he did not stand out, but this time when I tried to look at him, I thought that he is a person who gives of a sparkling flowers aura. His eyes and his smile that becomes like a cresent moon are cute! The gentle atmosphere that surrounds him makes his surroundings peaceful.

[TRANS] 110827 Withdrawn from U-KISS, Kibum is now active

Originally being active in Korean idol group U-KISS and then withdrawn, it was made known on 26th that Kibum (20) will go solo and restart his solo activity in Japan with name ‘Allen’. In October, he will debut as professional actor in a stage play ‘Kizuna 2011 Seishun yo Daisho wo Idake!’ (Bond 2011 Boys be Ambitious!) . Also, with regards to his debut as moderator (MC) in a music event earlier in September, he has plans for multiple activity. “Actor in Japan, singer, MC, composer…and various other things are what I want to do. I hope to work as an “all-rounded entertainer” Allen said with his eyes twinkling.

Allen, whose real name is Kibum, was active in Korean idol group U-KISS till he was withdrawn in February this year. Hereafter, he will restart solo activity as Allen in Japan.

During his idol era, he is trained in singing and dancing. He is fluent not only in Japanese, but also English. As Allen, starting from October 20 he will start anew, to debut as professional actor, challenging a stage play ‘Kizuna 2011 Seishun yo Daisho wo Idake!’ (Bond 2011 Boys be Ambitious!). He will play the part of act as a handsome senior high school student, one of the main roles .

Posing in hakama just like the role he is gonna play as, “It feels so good~. The feeling of becoming cool. I feel like I’m getting closer to Japan,” Allen happily declared. “Even though (being in a) musical and (becoming an) actor are both my first time, I want to show my real self. About the increase in the number of colleagues , it was a pleasure to co-star with Japanese actors,” showing enthusiasm.

Before the stage play, on September 10 in Kagoshima he will open ‘K-POP MUSIC FESTIVAL 2011 in KAGOSHIMA’, marking his MC debut. Allen’s aim is to be able to do anything, an ‘all-rounded entertainer’. “Actor, singer, MC, composer, … and various other things that I want to do in Japan. When I say I want to do something, I will absolutely do it. I will become an ‘all-rounded entertainer’” he said with a smile and while looking intently.

His older brother is Kim Hyungjoon (popular as ‘Maknae’), a member of popular Korean group SS501. After being withdrawn from U-KISS, Allen, together with his brother, established a character companym showing the extent of their closeness. Allen said ” Brother always worries about me, he is a gentleman. Someday, we will work (collaborate) on an album as siblings, wanting to do it together,” talking about his dream.

About the fans in Japan, “In order to understand the Japanese fully, the heart and the mind, I will learn all about Japanese language and Japanese culture; that being the case, I’ll be happy if everyone, too, will know me better.” he sent his message.

U-Kiss' youngest member, Dongho, is being reborn in the animation film <Hong Gil Dong 2084> . We caught up with Dongho last friday to discuss about his first animation voice dubbing at the film's media premiere.

Dongho: Hello E-Daily viewers. I'm one of the voice dubbers of Hong Gil Dong and U-Kiss' Dongho. It's nice to meet you.

You've taken on the role in <Hong Gil Dong 2084>, an animation that is set in 2084 Yuldo City. It's a story about Hong Gil Dong protecting the peace and freedom of the city.
Dongho: Yes, the olden-day Hong Gil Dong is placed into the times of 2084 as an animation. The role I've taken on is the main character, Hong Gil Dong, who is more sophisticated compared to the old hero.

This is the first time you've faced the challenge of animation dubbing. Did you have any difficulties adjusting to the role, such as breathing?
Dongho: Reenacting the heavy breathing scenes were quite hard, especially the fighting scenes. You need to have the correct breathing and breathe hard at the right times. I think the breathing is harder than executing the lines.

I heard that you recently just turned 18 years old and proudly received your ID card.
Dongho: I thought I'd be happy once I got my ID but I didn't feel any different. Once I came out, I went to the bank and I need to bring my passport or something like it, but now I can just pull out a card from my wallet. It made me feel happy and satisfied. The group you are a member of, U-Kiss, is currently active in Japan. When will you be active again in Korea?
Dongho: We've been living in Japan and performing Japanese activities so we weren't able to do many Korean activities. We're planning to release a 2nd album in Korea and come out on broadcasts regularly, so I hope everyone will support us then.

Animal Test 1: The members had to choose an animal that they think will send good future messages. They also chose an animal that is most likely to tell bad news. The choices: tiger, dog, lamb, parrot, and turtle.

Animal Test 2: From the choices lion, horse, lamb, cow, and monkey, the members had to choose which animals they would get rid of first.

Animal Test 3: The members chose how they will “move”/”transport” these animals: snake, monkey, and bird

Animal Test 4: This test will show how the members will react if their crush had a boyfriend by choosing an animal.

DONGHO’S RESULTS

Animal Test Result 1: Dongho chose the tiger that will most likely send good future messages and chose the turtle that will send out bad messages. These results show Dongho expects to meet his future partner/girlfriend who has strong wills and ambitions. Choosing the turtle, the future partner/girlfriend Dongho should NOT meet is someone who does not know how to smile and someone who is always serious. 

Animal Test Result 2: Monkey-Lamb-Lion-Cow-Horse is the order that Dongho chose to get rid of first. He values work the most then money. Falling that, he cares for his friends/partner. 

Animal Test Result 3: Dongho chose to have the snake wrap around the monkey’s neck and have the bird sit on the monkey’s shoulders. With his, he would hold hands with the monkey. This shows that Dongho will trust his future partner/girlfriend 100%. Dongho will have his future partner/girlfriend take care of finance problems and have her take care of their future child’s education. Holding hands with the monkey show that Dongho will work hard with his partner to be together forever. 

Animal Test Result 4: Dongho chose a lion. Even though he looks strong on the outside, he is weak. Dongho will not confess to his crush; therefore, he will only watch her from far away.

TRY TRY, ABOUT '0330' Just like the song, I’ve actually experienced something like that. Even though it’s a sad memory, in order to show the right emotions, I have to think about it. In junior high, I started off as an athlete. In order to move forward for this dream, I had to go away for 5 months to receive proper training. I had to break up with my girlfriend because of that. I liked her a lot but I had to force myself. That was the first time I learned about ‘girls’ and ‘tears’.

EPISODE During our album preparations, it was Eli and Soohyun’s birthday. Because we were so busy with the recording, we couldn’t celebrate their birthdays properly. So, we bought a cake and told them to go out. We turned off the lights and threw them a mini surprise party.

I WANT U-KISS TITLE U-Kiss has a lot of titles. I’ll be selfish and name what kind of title I want. “Emotional Vocal Hoon”, please make a placard of that (laughs).

SUCCESS MUTIZEN SONG I don’t cry easily. But if we did receive #1, I think I would cry thinking about my past struggles.

U-KISS BAND POSITION I never took piano lessons, but I’m able to play simple chords. We got new instruments in our practice room. Every time we go in, all the members fight for the instruments they want. One member would play the guitar while the other member will play the piano. We can now play 2-3 songs alone.

HOON’S TEMPTATION, CHARM All the members have their own charms, but I don’t think I have anything special. I guess I’m confident in my voice.

IDEAL TYPE I think my ideal type never change. My ideal type when I was young is the same for now too. To express shortly, I like girls that are cute and small. Oh, and girls with soft hands. If I had a girlfriend, I would sing for her. I would also write words with the candle on a dark night at a park. My future girlfriend, please look forward to it~!

IF I’M A WOMAN If I was a girl, I would definitely date Eli. If Eli was my boyfriend, he would take care of me even without me asking for his attention. He’s not too immature and he’s very reliable. I personally like those kind of people. He’s closest to my ideal type. The member I do NOT want to date is AJ. The Reason? He’s only good to girls. TOO much.

JUST TRY First thing is first, I want U-Kiss to be known by everyone. It would be nice if my name can be known too. I think I would die of happiness if someone would recognize me in the streets.

TO FAN I know I lack in many parts. Instead of being lazy, I will practice hard even after our schedules. Fans, I know I’ll be awkward at first. I want to thank everyone who’s supporting us. We will show you a better side of us in the future. Please watch out for us.

Last week, K-POP group U-KISS visited our back seats(sat at the last row of the seats meant for crew). They have given [Goong Musical] rave reviews which we will now introduce to you.

AJ : 

I  enjoyed watching the Goong musical. 

Every scene had a lot of fun parts, there were also moments where it was very touching.

ELI :

It was really enjoyable.

I have been able to watch and enjoy both the drama and musical.

KISEOP : 

Firstly, thank you for extending the invitation to all our members (to watch the musical).

Interesting portions of the drama were also presented in the musical and it was very enjoyable to be able to watch it.

The singing of songs in the during the musical was also very good. Also, I hope to have a chance like this.

HOON : 

Though I have also watched the drama, I fel that there was actually a good difference.

The songs were good and the actors ability were very high.

Fantastic time spent.

KEVIN : 

It was awesomely enjoyable.

I felt the abilities of all the actors.

I have also watched the drama, yet again I discovered the charms (of Goong) and was very touched.

After held a succesful Mini Concert in Medan-Brastagi, Indonesia in March 5th, KOREANpop got an opportunity to interview U-KISS team. After waiting in cold weather for about 15 minutes, finally our redaction can met this 6 boys which friendly welcoming us. Although they've did so many activities during the day, there's no tired look on their face. They throw jokes each other, make the awkward atmosphere become friendlier, so the 10mins interview felt like just 3mins. All the questions & answers are in English, thanks to Eli and Alexander (translator note: I think they forget to put Kevin's name here) for being translators between KOREANpop with Soohyun, Kiseop & Dongho.

How do you think about Indonesia and finally held a concert here?

K : We always wanted to go to Indonesia from the first. Finally we came and the impression about Indonesia is "love of the fans". They are very excited and enthusiastic and many friendly people. And so many beautiful view, trees and mountains here.

A : And we really enjoy the foods.

K : Uh yeah, yummy.

A : Love nasi goreng (fried rice) and sate (satay)

K : Yes, yes.

Do you like it too?

E : I love everything (laugh)

What do you think about the concert? Any good moments?

E : It's so much fun. This is the first time we did it with Indonesian fans. We're really had a good time both on stage and out of stage. We would like to thank all the fans whose with us, for three times (He mean to three times during the event in Brastagi)

E : I wanna go backpacking!

What are your plans after this concert?

E : We want to release a new album and we'll ask our fans to keep supporting us 100% and we'll tell them that we really love them & thankfull for all the supports for us.

E : Yup! We'll try to come to Indonesia & we'll visit Jakarta!

K : Yeah, Jakarta.

What is the difference between “singer Dongho” and “actor Dongho”?

There isn’t a very big difference, when we are performing on music shows I will walk and use music to de-stress, but now I pass time by watching dramas. The biggest difference is that my members are not with me. When I am lonely or sad I have no one to lean onto. This is quite sad.

Was the filming of “Royal Family” interesting?

Very interesting. There were much more scenes that I had to act in compared to the previous movie that I was in. The difficulty level was also higher, and my acting skills are not that good yet, but I am trying to improve on this and I feel that I should work harder.

Was it burdensome to act together with your seniors?

“Royal Family” is based on a family in Korea’s high-class society, so the atmosphere on set is quite tense, but after the director shouts “Cut!” it will be different, especially when I hear the seniors talk about their past experiences. They are so meaningful!

Is there a role you must try playing?
 

I want to try playing a role like Kim Joo Won (Hyunbin) in “Secret Garden” that can move even male fans. I also want to try playing roles that can make people think “if only I were more mature” or “If only I could do this”.

Which actor do you want to act most with?

“Dream High”’s Kim Soohyun hyung. I am his loyal fan! Actually, I’ve met him once, his personality is really nice! If I ever get to the standard where I can work with him, I hope I will get the chance to.

Is it very tiring to be acting and preparing for a comeback at the same time?

To be honest... I am feeling very tired, that’s why I am trying to adopt good habits. I need to rest but at the same time remember dance steps and watch dramas! So, I am working hard now to balance all these out.

Do you have any special methods to keep yourself healthy?
 

I don’t have anything special, but I really like eating sweet food like chocolates. Once I am tired I will be unhappy, so at these times I need chocolate to cool myself down.

What present do you want to give to your parents the most?

I hope when I earn lots of money next time… I want to buy a big present to show my respect for them. I really admire celebrities whenever I see news of them buying houses and cars~

What is the biggest difference between now and when you just debuted?

When we first debuted I didn’t know anything. I only chose to work in this industry because I liked the idea of being a singer, but after becoming one I realised the advantages and disadvantages, so recently I have been trying to think positively. Even if I see insulting comments, even if I face difficulties, even if I don’t have any air time, I will still think on the bright side and realise these are not really problems.

As a singer, what is the dream who want to achieve most?
 

Until today we haven’t even gotten first on any music show. I really wish U-KISS will get number one.

What about you makes you attractive?

Everytime I answer this question I will feel so embarrassed, how can I talk about my own attractiveness without feeling embarrassed? I am very mature for my age and that is what’s attractive about me. Contrary to first impression, nobody can believe that I am only 18 after speaking to me. At first I felt hurt, but as time passed I realised that it is actually attractive. Although I am only a normal student, I seem very mature at times.

What kind of girls do you like?

I don’t like people who tell lies. I can tell if someone is lying very easily. If I know that someone has been lying I will explode in anger, so I don’t want to be in a relationship with someone who lies!

If you could be born again, what kind of person do you want to be?

A while ago when I was at a certain website I saw a topic about the guy who looks best dressed up as a girl (?). Curious, I clicked on it and realised that it was me! It seems a bit weird to be saying this, but at times I think I’m quite abnormal. Usually when guys are asked to dress up as girls they will be unwilling, but when I do it I will make sure I take care of my hair and take pictures, acting as if I have worn skirts for a long time. Although this sounds like I am boasting, but I think I am quite pretty. If I were to be born again I want to be a girl who is even prettier than I am now!

[NEWS] 110216 U-Kiss Visiting Taipei's Raohe Night Market

In tonight's (16 Feb) 7pm Channel [V] Love JK hosted by Wu JIan Heng, there will be a special report of U-Kiss arrival in Taiwan to attend the 2010 [V] Music Awards Concert. Channel [V] Love JK Wu Jian Heng specially brought South Korean band U-Kiss around Taipei's Raohe Night Market to try the different food culture. In the cold winter night, there were a lot of fans waiting at the venue; their passion were not dampened by the cold 10 degrees Celsius temperature. In the cold 10 degrees weather, the fangirls were very heartwarming, causing U-Kiss to take down their coats and making them feel so warm that they want to eat mango ice shavings.

In 10 degrees Celcius weather, the enthusisam built up as the night went. Even before the South Korean boyband U-Kiss reached Taipei's Raohe Night Market, the fangirls had already came, undeterred by the cold weather, holding their cameras to get the best position for clear close-up shots of U-Kiss when they arrived.

The fangirls' enthusiasm warmed U-Kiss, who even though it was chilly, the young & strong boys were not scared of the cold and complained that they felt too warm. Because of the warmth, they decided to forgo trying the famous Taipei's Raohe Night Market herbal pork ribs to eat mango ice shavings, which make them said "Delicious!" out loud.

Other than having a feast at the night market, U-Kiss tried playing the night market's games - Jiugongge*, arcade basketball and table hockey. They experienced the real Taiwan's night market culture. In the cold winter night, U-Kiss, together with the passionate fans till the end, felt the warmth of Taiwan's fans.
